At Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital, our Duarte & Azusa veterinarian promotes dental care as an importantpart of every cat and dog's lifelong wellness plan. Dental hygiene is essential to the ongoing health and comfort of your pet. Without proper dental care and maintenance, your pets can end up suffering from tooth decay, cavities, gingivitis, mouth sores, periodontal disease, abscesses, and blood infections. Directly resulting from poor dental hygiene, these ailments not only cause your pet difficulty eating and drinking as well as immense pain and discomfort, they can also take a serious toll on your pet's overall health, causing kidney, liver, heart, and lung damage and eventually leading to an early death. Visible signs of dental complications include excessive drooling, difficulty eating and drinking, displaying pain, swollen, red gums, foul breath, and bleeding. If your pet displays any of these symptoms, schedule him or her for an appointment for examination right away.

Though dental health problems can become severe, pet owners can rest easy knowing that complications associated with poor oral hygiene can be prevented with the proper dental care, examinations, and diet.

Duarte & Azusa Veterinarian Offers Complete Veterinary Oral Health Services

Our Duarte & Azusa veterinarian provides patients with a full list of pet dental services to help patients stay healthy and live long, happy lives.

Pet Dental Exam - In addition to our other veterinary wellness services like vaccinations, our Duarte & Azusa veterinarian provides dental examinations as a part of routine wellness checks or as individual appointments. During a dental exam, our veterinarian inspects your pet's teeth and gums looking for signs of plaque, tartar buildup, and gum disease in order to rate your pet's dental health on a scale of 1 (mild) to 4 (severe). Based on your pet's dental health, our veterinarian will prescribe a wellness or treatment plan.

Pet Teeth Cleaning - A pet's teeth cleaning is very similar to a human's, but performed under anesthesia to ensure a gentle touch and limit your pet's anxiety during the procedure. During a cleaning, our veterinarian uses a scaler and polisher to remove plaque and tartar buildup on the teeth and under the gums to prevent and treat periodontal disease (bacterial infection of the gums).

Tooth Extractions - If necessary due to excessive decay, infection, or abscess, one or several tooth extractions might be required to ensure your pet can eat comfortably and live pain-free. During a dental cleaning and examination, our veterinarian will assess your pet's teeth, only removing those which are too severely decayed to save.

At Home Care - Pet owners can also work to keep their pets' teeth healthy between office visits. Our Duarte & Azusa veterinarian discusses at-home dental care with pet owners including specially formulated food, chew toys, rinses, and brushing.

Help your pets maintain a bright smile, purr, and wagging tail by scheduling a dental examination and cleaning with our veterinarian today.
