February is Pet Dental Month!
Dental examinations and teeth cleanings can help prevent oral health problems and infections in your pets. Our veterinarian in Duarte, Dr. R. Zabihi, would like to remind you to schedule an appointment during national pet dental health month for an oral examination and teeth cleaning.
February Is National Pet Dental Health Month
Many pet owners do not believe that dogs and cats need regular oral health checkups or dental cleanings. Unfortunately, a lack of dental health care for your pet can lead to loose teeth, periodontal disease, gingivitis and life-threatening infections that can damage your pet’s heart and kidneys. A great way to help maintain your pet’s oral health is to schedule an appointment with our Duarte & Azusa veterinarian during national pet dental health month this February.

Dental Examinations with our Duarte & Azusa Veterinarian
Along with annual wellness checkups, our Duarte & Azusa veterinarian recommends annual dental health appointments and teeth cleanings. It is estimated that most dogs and cats have some form of dental disease by the time they are three years old. Dental disease can lead to tooth decay, the need to extract teeth and infections that can enter your pet’s bloodstream, causing serious illness.
A dental exam with our veterinarian helps catch dental diseases before they can seriously impact your pet’s health. The first part of your pet’s dental exam involves a thorough examination of your pet’s mouth, teeth and gums in order to identify any signs of dental disease. If we find dental disease, our vet will explain the findings and recommend a treatment program to restore your pet’s oral health.
The next phase of your pet’s dental examination involves a thorough cleaning of your pet’s teeth. Our veterinarian will administer a small amount of anesthesia. This helps reduce your pet’s pain and anxiety while our vet scrapes all the plaque and tartar from your pet’s teeth and gums and polishes them so they are smooth. If your pet has gingivitis or periodontal disease, cleaning your pet’s teeth helps treat the disease.
