Deworming

Deworming

Dogs and cats are great hosts for worms and parasites. They are always sniffing, licking, or eating anything they see. This includes dirt, fecal matter, and trash, making it possible for your pet to pick up some type of worm or parasite. If you have another pet in the home, there is a good chance that your pet will pass a worm or parasite to them as well. Fortunately, our veterinarian at Duarte Azusa Animal Hospital can deworm your pet, preventing serious complications in the future.

Signs Your Pet Has Worms

If your pet has worms, there are a few symptoms that may manifest. The symptoms your pet experiences depend on the type of worm and where it is living in your pet's body. These symptoms include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Coughing
  • Chewing or licking under the tail
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weight loss
  • Identifying the Worm

When you take your pet to our veterinarian, we will need to identify the worm. The most common worms include roundworms, tapeworms, hookworms, and whipworms. Because these worms tend to set up their home in a pet's intestines, our vet will need to take a stool sample for proper identification. You will be asked to bring one to our office for testing. Our vet will also need to determine if there are worm eggs in the intestines as well.
